Tutorial Needlepoint a letter

Cut the canvas on the desired dimension.

Place the adhesive paper band around the borders. It saves the floss from fraying.

With your word processor, choose a font and the dimension you want for you letter. Print it in black.

Use a light table or a window. Put first your printed letter and on top of it your canvas.

With a Frixion pen transfer you letter on the canvas. My canvas is 20 cm wide and 12 cm high.

On a small piece of canvas try out the combination of threads you selected. You’ll need more skeins for the background. For my canvas I will need 1 skein for every color and 3 skeins for the background. I always buy an extra skein per color.

I use tent stitch. Differently from the tradition, I use it in opposite directions, to avoid to deform the fabric.

To flatten the embroidery I carefully moisten it with warm water. Then I put it in shape between two polystyrene squares with weights on top. I leave it there one night.
